WORKSHOP Intro to Encaustic

The hot-wax process, called "encaustic" has been around since at least 50 AD. In this class, we will cover numerous aspects of the rich history of encaustic: materials, safety concerns, layering, fusing and color mixing. Some time will be given for students to begin experimenting. Tuition covers the cost the basic materials, including 1 pound of encaustic medium. Students will be expected to bring any supplemental items (extra encaustic medium can be brought with the student or purchased from the instructors upon arrival). This is a highly recommended workshop for those interested in the rest of the weekend’s offerings, but have not worked with encaustic before. No previous experience needed in order to participate.
