THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL; to be added to the waiting list please contact our office at office@grunewaldguild.com

Previous students praise Jean Tudor's ability to guide beginning students through the enameling process while providing plenty of creative freedom.

This class will explore a range of cloisonné enameling techniques, with an emphasis on steep and three-dimensional surfaces. Our materials will include copper and fine silver cloisonné wire, gold and silver foil for inlay, gold leaf for a scattered gold surface, copper and enamel (ground glass.)

"If I want to sift dry powdered glass onto an angled piece of copper, how do I make it stick??"  In this class we will work with adhering solutions, sifting methods, even a little bit of torch-firing AND maybe making up new ways to do it.  It is possible to master this!
Glass on metal, vitreous enamel, enameling--whatever you call it--provides a riot of gorgeous color.  Come and try it on "slopes"--even vertical ones!

The richness of the materials and the techniques will result in an elegant piece which celebrates the glories of God’s creation. All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+

What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?

Class time will be spent on familiarizing ourselves with the materials and tools, exploring design options, and experimenting with different techniques. Many students find they want to work mornings AND afternoons, though afternoon work is not required.

What can I expect to create?

Come prepared to make some beautiful test pieces that may be used for jewelry work and some finished cloisonné pieces, either for jewelry or wall works.

What should I bring to class?

All enameling supplies will be provided. Please bring a sketchbook or several sheets of drawing paper, and something to write with.
