Journaling can be practiced as a spiritual discipline and prayer: a way to process the Spirit's stirring in our lives. Paying attention to moments, words, music can nudge us toward creating, so that we too can participate in the conversation. A journal is a way to mark this holy work.
In this class, we will explore imagination, attentiveness, and creative process. We’ll use a journal as a spiritual tool.
All experience levels welcome. Ages 16+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
We’ll practice journaling while working with prompts that inspire contemplation and creativity. We’ll experiment with text as graphic information, explore the use of alcohol-based markers in blending and coloring. Our class will be small enough to allow for individual coaching. Students will not be required to work outside of class; however, the studio will be open throughout the day and students are welcome to continue working if they choose.
What can I expect to create?
Each participant will establish a personal journal filled with questions, observations, insights, and imagery. Participants will also develop skills and methods to continue using the journal as a practice for deep listening and personal formation after the conclusion of the class.
What should I bring to class?
All necessary materials will be provided; however, students with prior art experience are welcome to bring a favorite sketchbook and drawing media. Students are also welcome to bring favorite devotional material.
