Join Terry Valdez as he returns to Grunewald after a year’s sabbatical. We will continue our explorations of the human figure with Head to Toe II in a fun, non- threatening environment. this class will incorporate studio time as well as outdoor field study, allowing us to build organically from observations of a live model.
This class is focused on the creative and expressive process rather finished products. Terry will introduce a wide variety of of drawing and sculpting materials and techniques, including graphite, charcoal, wet wash, pen & ink on assorted art media papers. Clay studies will allow us to explore the wonders of three-dimensional form, texture, light and shadow.
All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+
What will the class be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
Each morning we will warm up with fun, non-threatening drawing or sculpting techniques, followed by longer drawings and opportunities to explore different media and techniques.
Students are encouraged (though not required) to take advantage of open studio time in the afternoons. The instructor will be available daily from 1:30 to 2:30 pm for individual mentoring.
What can I expect to create?
This class emphasizes process over product, and participants will be invited to explore the human figure, experiment with a range of drawing media and techniques. It is Terry’s hope that the student rediscover or discover their own creative process, and do it in a relaxed non-threatening atmosphere. By the end of the week each participant will be able to assemble a personal portfolio featuring examples from their week of experimentations.
What should I bring to class?
All necessary materials will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty in the studio. if you have a favorite sketchbook - journal or drawing materials, please feel free to bring them.
