Use your sewing and quilting skills to create rigid three-dimensional structures, including vases, boxes, bowls, nichos, shrines, houses, altars, or whatever else you might come up with in the course of the week.
We will use fabric collage and embellishment to decorate our structures, and both machine and hand stitching will be used for construction.
Some experience required. This class is open to participants age 14+ who have a basic knowledge of sewing and know their way around a sewing machine.
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
The instructor will introduce the use of shrines (or fabric boxes or vases, etc.), talk through the basic process of designing and creating one, and then open up the studio so participants can get to work! The week will largely be spent in independent work time, with individual direction and one-on-one feedback available as needed.
Participants who choose to make a small, simple piece can expect to finish during scheduled class time alone. Those wishing to make a complicated shape with a lot of embellishments should expect to spend a significant amount of time outside of class in order to finish within the week.
What can I expect to create?
Most participants can expect to finish one piece in the course of the week. Some participants may decide to make one small, simple shrine to get the technique down, and then go on to design something more complex, which may not be finished by the end of the week.
What should I bring to class?
