Past participants say Jan Krist's classes are "all things good" and "incredibly productive," and praise her ability to bring out the best in students of all experience levels.
The Grunewald Guild songwriting workshop is the coming together of generous and supportive instructors and students, in support of the creative journey we are on collectively and individually. According Guild tradition, the week culminates with a coffee house performance of the songs created in the class for the entire community.
All experience levels welcome, from beginning songwriters to songwriting veterans. Ages 16+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
Our week will begin with writing exercises designed to kickstart the writing process. The first few days will be filled with instruction, conversation, and opportunities to work on the song assignment or prompt handed out on the first day. The second half of the week will be spent learning the art of the re-write as we analyze our work in a supportive and affirming atmosphere. While there will be time in class to work, most of the writing will be done outside of class.
What can I expect to create?
Students can expect to write, arrange and perform at least one new song.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a notebook and writing utensil, as well as any musical instruments you may wish to incorporate in your songwriting. A piano is available for use in the Centrum building.
This class is part of the Grünewald Guild's Summer 2016 Program. Click here to learn more about our theme, Jubilee, as well as the weekly schedule and a full list of housing options.
