With grateful hearts for all the blessings that Jim and Vonda Drees have brought to the Grünewald Guild during their tenure as Directors, the Board of Directors announces the completion of their service effective late Fall 2020/early Spring 2021 in order to faithfully see us through this transition.
We realize that the timing of this announcement comes during a season of so many future unknowns for all of us and we want you to know that this transition is not pandemic related. This is simply part of the ebb and flow of the Grunewald Guild and all who pass through it. When it comes to those who have led us forward in so many beautifully creative ways, there would never be a good time to say goodbye.
Since 2016, Jim and Vonda have been instrumental in carrying forth the vision of the Grünewald Guild through their own unique leadership skills. Their contributions have led to the ongoing creation of the Grünewald Guild as a place that welcomes and inspires all who seek to explore the relationships between art, faith and community. We will miss their vision, energy and presence on campus, and we also wish them a peaceful transition back to their cabin in Texas as well as a gentle unfolding of what’s to come in this next phase of their lives. We sincerely thank them for the five years of dedication they have given to the Guild. They leave behind lasting love notes that include:
- The enhancement of campus buildings, including lighting and furniture upgrades to Centrum and updates for studios. The nurture and creation of sacred spaces, including Finisterre, winter use of the labyrinth and new walking paths, lighting and benches.
- An expanded presence in the digital world, which includes online classes, a new website, as well as a doubling of the Guild’s Facebook and Instagram followers.
- An increase of the campus footprint to the river by securing adjoining property, including the Belcher cabin, and applying for and receiving a grant of $230,000 from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
During this transition period our goal will be to find the next capable individual(s) to lead the Guild while maintaining the stability of the community and our programs. The position description and application process can be found at the link below or by contacting [email protected]. We ask for your help in identifying candidates who might be a good fit for the next season in the life of the Guild.
From Jim and Vonda Drees, Executive Directors:
So much love comes flooding in as we write these words to begin preparing both the Guild and ourselves for this transition. Our time in this beloved community has been marked with profound growth and transformation, some of the deepest, most abiding, perhaps yet to be revealed. For now, please know that you have filled our hearts with stories and songs, faithfulness and friendship, laughter and love, gratitude and grace. They are gifts you’ve showered upon us in abundance and we trust that movement of Spirit to be alive and well for the next director(s).
There’s a blessing from Jan’s Richardson’s book, Circle of Grace, that we have often used to conclude our program weeks together. It seems fitting that we continue to claim this with one another:
In the Leaving
In the leaving,
In the letting go,
Let there be this
To hold onto at the last:
The enduring of love,
The persisting of hope,
The remembering of joy,
The offering of gratitude,
The receiving of grace,
The blessing of peace.
Amen. Peace be with you, Friends,
Jim & Vonda
