We’re thrilled to welcome back Jillian Blackwell, whom previous students have described as “generous with her knowledge [with] endless patience for endless questions. She shared her love of ceramics with everything she says and does. There are not enough words to say how great she was as an instructor–meeting each student at their skill set and experience level.”
In this class, all are welcome to come and learn various hand-building and surface decoration techniques! We will delve into slab-building, coil construction, and pinching techniques. After we have constructed vessels (cups, bowls, vases–whatever you can dream up!), we will decorate them using a myriad of techniques–stamping, water etching, sgraffito, mishima, and more! This would be an excellent introduction to clay for beginners and young teens, but the rich array of techniques will also benefit experienced ceramic artists.
All experience levels welcome, especially beginners! Ages 12+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
Each class day will have 2-3 demonstrations of a new technique. The rest of the class will be open work time with one-on-one feedback from the instructor as needed. It is not necessary to work outside of class, but the studio is open 24 hours a day and participants are welcome to continue working as much as they choose.
What can I expect to create?
Each participant can expect to make a minimum of 3-4 pieces. The total number of pieces will vary depending on each person’s experience level and desire to work outside of class–the sky is the limit!
All necessary materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to wear old clothes or an apron that can get dirty while working in the studio. Participants are also encouraged to bring in pictures for inspiration–especially of patterns that they like!
