Come and study with Guild Master Ruth Sinclair. Past students describe Ruthie as “fantastic,” “experienced and knowledgeable beyond expectation” and “very patient.”
This is a unique opportunity to learn from the artist who created and pioneered the clay-paper medium and process! Students will design and create a large clay-paper relief (high, medium or bas relief) sculpture, by combining paper pulp and dry clay as a casting material. After the casting, Ruth will demonstrate varieties of acrylic surface finishes.
These relief sculptures begin by building on a 2′ x 3′ polystyrene board, which can be cut into any shape. The clay-paper is added on to the board and the relief work begins!
Students are encouraged to work with a subject of their choosing. Figurative or abstract concepts are welcome. Ruthie says, “When you put yourself into your work, your piece becomes so very meaningful to you, and everyone, really.”
All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+
Note: Teachers of any grade level can easily use this non-toxic sculpture technique for classroom projects.
Students will be led through each step with demonstrations. Further possibilities of this unique medium will be shown in a presentation of the instructor’s own works. There will be independent work time with one-on-one feedback from the instructor. Most students should expect to work outside of class in order to complete their projects.
