Previous students rave about Scott Burnett’s commitment to creating a “safe place & affirming community,” with “lots of creative, expressive energy.”
Scott writes, “Conversation is an art and art is a conversation. This class is an opportunity to listen to your unique artistic voice, and to explore your personal visual vocabulary.
We’ll begin the week with a variety of mark-making exercises, primarily utilizing dry media. The lines, textures, and patterns that emerge through these explorations will launch our paintings.
All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
Classes will begin with a description of our direction for the day, and we’ll have time for sketchbook-journaling. We’ll take time each morning for conversation around the table. As the week progresses, we’ll go deeper and deeper into the paint. Throughout class time, I will give mini demos of techniques such as layering, glazing, palette knife, etc.
Participants wishing to create complex or ambitious projects should expect to spend additional time working outside of class.
One finished painting on an 18″x18″ cradled birch panel and 4 to 6 experimental surfaces.
What should I bring to class?
- If you have a “problem painting” that you’d like to find a way forward with, feel free to bring it!
