Carla Orlando will co-lead this Ignatian journey inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius. Stay tuned for her teaching partner. Past participants described last year’s teaching duo like this, “Carla is an amazing guide! Father Pat is a treasure + gem.”
We will travel alongside one another on this five day pilgrimage, over the terrain of our individual lives with the Spirit through guided meditation, artistic responses, and written reflection.
Each morning, a new theme for our exploration will be introduced. We will spend quiet, contemplative time in outdoor spaces, as well as focusing on our own rich, interior landscapes. Carla will guide our responses to the theme by sharing techniques for using sketching, color, collage and reflective journaling, allowing us to explore each theme with both visual imagery and the written word.
Much like the notebook of St Ignatius, our sketchbook journals will become a record of our experience. Our patterns and discoveries, and the desolations and consolations we observe will help to bring to light our deep desires, discernments and direction in our everyday world.
All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 18+
Each day will include instructors’ presentations, guided meditation, creative responses, and reflective writing prompts around the day’s theme. While there will be time for group sharing, much of the focus of this class will be introspective.
There is no requirement for participants to work outside of class time; however, the studio is open 24 hours and participants are welcome to continue working in the afternoons and evenings if they choose.
Over the course of the week we will fill our sketchbooks with responses to themes, the words and images, observations, creative responses, and written reflections based on our own spiritual journeys. Our visual responses may take the form of drawing, sketching, painting, and/or collage.
What should I bring to class?
All necessary materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing for spending time outdoors each day.
Those with an established sketchbook or any preferred drawing or writing utensils are welcome to bring them. Please mark any personal art supplies clearly before the beginning of class.
