In this class you will watch demonstrations, and then experiment with a variety of “warm glass” techniques. You will make a number of pieces that will be fired, including a full-fused piece, a tack fused mosaic (which is more three dimensional), and be introduced to slumping. You will learn how to sandblast-etch glass, how to use a silkscreen to print on glass with powdered glass, and how to make a simple fused glass . This is a hands on class. Knowledge of how to cut glass is useful, but not necessary.
Participants wishing to create complex or ambitious projects should expect to spend additional time working outside of class.
Fused glass coasters; a tack-fused mosaic; a sandblasted, iridized glass piece, and at least one powder printed piece.
You should bring your ideas, and some simple, bold BLACK AND WHITE designs that you could cut in vinyl with an Xacto knife for the powder printing sections. The designs should not have very small lines, or be overly detailed.
You must wear close-toed shoes, and preferably long pants.
