Previous students say: “Rondall Reynoso offers a supportive atmosphere… and breaks down the technical elements without losing the artistic exploration and respects the individual artists’ interests and backgrounds. He makes it easy to learn the process and is supportive of each artist’s style and aesthetic.”
This mixed-media drawing class is designed to introduce students to working with abstract concepts and producing abstract work. We will explore abstracting the image from reality as well as creating non-objective images.
This class approaches abstraction both as an aesthetic choice, and as a mode for personal expression, and participants are encouraged to follow their own curiosity and sense of leading.
All experience levels welcome. Ages 14+
The week will begin with more structured class time, including viewing sample artworks, discussing abstraction as a tool for conveying meaning, and practicing various exercises to begin working and thinking more abstractly. Later in the week, we will move into independent work time with the instructor providing individual feedback as needed.
Participants should be able to finish their projects within the allotted class time; however, the studio is open 24 hours and participants are welcome to continue working outside of class if they choose.
Participants can expect to have a small portfolio of abstract drawings by the end of the class.
What should I bring to class?
All necessary tools and materials will be provided, including charcoal and pastels for drawing. However, those wishing to explore abstraction in other media are welcome and encouraged to bring their own materials from home.
