In this class taught by Guild Faculty Tamisha Tyler, we will explore, share, and celebrate our unique cultural stories: the particular blend of influences that have shaped us into the people we are today.
Through guided writing exercises, meditation, and class discussion, we will explore the broad theme of “culture” and how our unique experiences have influenced our understanding of ourselves, our faith journeys, and our sense of belonging.
All experience levels welcome. Ages 16+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
Each day will guide us through instructor presentations, reflective writing prompts, and group discussion as we explore different facets of our cultural stories and how they influence our lives today. In addition to solitary work, participants will engage in group writing projects including collaborative poetry.
There is no requirement for participants to work outside of class time; however, writing can be time-consuming and some participants may wish to continue working in the afternoons or evenings.
When is class time?
10:00am – 1:00pm (Pacific time), Monday through Friday, July 20-24, via Zoom
What can I expect to create?
The primary focus of this class is on personal exploration and introspection, and our written responses may take many forms, including poetry, memoirs, or short stories.
What do I need for class?
Students will need journals and something to write with. Students can use a computer or other device, but it is recommended that students find a quiet place to write with no technology outside of discussion time via zoom.
