Responding to Mystic Wisdom with Liz Caemmerer & Vonda Drees

Join Liz and Vonda in a time of reading together the writings of some of their favorite mystics and activists for justice. Delight with them in the profoundly simple and grapple with them in the questions that arise.

Liz will lead spiritual exercises in the style of St. Ignatius throughout our time together, cultivating a posture of receptivity to imagination and presence.

Vonda will facilitate contemplative and creative journaling as one way to process what the Spirit is stirring among us, a way to mark this holy work.

Contemplative practice helps us hold the tension of today’s suffering with our responsibility to participate in its healing.

All experience levels welcome. Ages 16+

What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?

Each session will include spiritual exercises in the style of St. Ignatius as together we read the writings of mystic-activists. There will be times of labyrinth walking, riverside reflection and deep listening at the Finisterre. In the studio we will respond with the creative journaling.

Technically we will explore the use of alcohol-based markers in blending and coloring. Our class will be small enough to allow for individual coaching. Participants will not be required to work outside of class; however, the studio will be open throughout the day and participants are welcome to continue working if they choose.

What can I expect to create?

Each participant will be invited to establish a personal journal filled with the questions, observations, insights, and imagery from our time together. Participants will also develop skills and methods to continue the spiritual practices on their own.

What should I bring to class?

All necessary materials will be provided; however, participants with prior art experience are welcome to bring a favorite sketchbook and drawing media. Participants are also welcome to bring favorite devotional material.

This class is part of the Grünewald Guild’s Fall Sacred Arts Week.
