Soothe your skin and delight your senses by designing and creating your very own cold-process soaps with natural vegetable oils. This workshop is being taught by the Guild’s Art Program Manager, Sarah Jane.
In the morning, we will focus on discussing and learning the cold-process method of making soap, including important safety practices and techniques for ensuring a perfect bar of soap. We will also explore molding and decorative options, and necessary cure times for cold-process soaps.
In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to design and make their own custom soap recipes. We will choose oil blends to address specific needs such as dry or sensitive skin types. Participants will also have the opportunity to select additives such as exfoliants, natural colorants, or essential oils. By the end of the day, each participant will be able to take home a batch (10-12 full-size bars) of their very own custom-made soap!
The workshop will begin promptly at 9 AM on Saturday and end around 4 PM. All experience levels welcome. Ages 18+ (participants aged 13-17 are welcome when accompanied by an adult.)
What should I bring to class?
Please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and comfortable shoes as we will be standing for portions of the day. Participants are also welcome to bring their favorite essential oils if they choose.
Since we’re using our kitchen for the Sourdough Bread and Beer Making workshop, there won’t be regular lunch service during this workshop. Participants may choose to bring a sack lunch or visit the nearby Old Mill Cafe for lunch.
On-site housing is available this weekend. To make a reservation, please contact the office or use this online registration.
Please note that this workshop is offered concurrently with our Sourdough Bread and Beer Making class.
