Previous students describe Gail Kelly as an excellent teacher who is “really dedicated to her students’ growth & personal expression.”
Explore the essential techniques for designing and building leaded stained glass panels. This class will cover various approaches to designing stained-glass windows, including translating an original image (either naturalistic or abstract) into a workable stained glass design. In addition, students will learn basic techniques and safety practices for cutting glass and assembling leaded panels.
Here is a brief video of the stained glass process from the class in 2015:
All experience levels welcome. Ages 14+
What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?
We will explore various design approaches through class activities and discussion. Beginning students will learn techniques for cutting glass and making a small sample panel, as well as designing and creating a larger project. Experienced students are encouraged to bring existing designs and ideas, or to create a window for a particular setting or location.
Please note: Stained glass is a time-consuming process, and students MUST work outside of class in order to complete projects within the week. For safety reasons, the studio and tools will not be available for students to continue working after Sunday morning.
Beginners will complete one small leaded stained glass panel; more experienced students may choose to take on a panels up to three square foot in size for an additional materials fee.
What should I bring to class?
All necessary supplies will be provided, and the studio contains a large (but not limitless) selection of glass for students to choose from. Experienced students are encouraged to bring their own stained glass tools (please label clearly,) and all students are welcome to bring their own glass if they choose.
Materials Fee: The cost of this class covers all necessary materials, including glass for a finished panel of one square foot. Students may choose to create larger panels for an additional $50/square foot.
