Previous students describe Gail Kelly as an excellent teacher who is “able to work with all skill levels” and “really dedicated to her students’ growth & personal expression.”
Students will explore the essential techniques for designing and assembling a leaded glass panel. This class will cover various approaches to designing stained glass windows, including translating an original image into a workable stained glass design. Students will learn standard techniques, safety practices and problem solving involved in cutting glass and assembling leaded glass panels.
All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+
We will explore various design approaches through class activities and discussion. Beginning students will learn techniques for cutting glass and making a small sample panel, as well as designing and creating a larger project. Experienced students are encouraged to bring existing designs and ideas, or to create a window for a particular setting or location.
Please note: Stained glass is a time-consuming process, and all participants in this class MUST spend significant time outside of class in order to complete their projects. For safety reasons, the studio and tools will not be available for students to continue working after Saturday morning.
What can I expect to create?
All participants will begin with one small practice panel approximately 6″x8″ with up to 6 pieces of glass. Once this is complete, we will design and build a second panel of up to 30 pieces.
Participants with significant prior stained glass experience may make a larger panel upon approval from the instructor. No panels will exceed 3 square feet or 60 pieces. An additional material fee may apply for panels larger than 1 square foot.
What should I bring to class?
Stained glass is a messy process. Participants MUST wear closed toe shoes at all times in the studio. Drink containers must be closed. You may wish to bring old clothes or a studio apron. Experienced glass artists may bring their own tools (please mark clearly!) design ideas, & materials.
