Watercolor in the Sacred Milieu with Kristen Gilje

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. To be added to the waiting list, please contact us at [email protected].

Note: We will be offering Silk Painting: Color in the Wild with Kristen during Fall Sacred Arts, Oct. 20-26, 2019.

Past students describe Kristen Gilje as an expert teacher who encourages students to try new things while taking the fear and judgment out of the creation process.

Watercolor is Kristen’s first love. She writes, “Let practice and playful experimentation rule the day as we delve into the art of watercolor. For beginners through advanced, this is an opportunity to immerse ourselves in playful control/not control of the only paint medium that moves on its own.”

All experience levels welcome, including beginners. Ages 14+

What will class time be like? Will I need to work outside of class?

In this workshop we will learn techniques to control our medium just enough, while allowing watercolor to do what it does best, to move and mix and be beautiful no matter what we do to it. Each morning will start in the studio with a painting demonstration, followed by time to paint. Daily drawing exercises will help us capture our vision.  If the weather cooperates we will spend time painting outdoors, otherwise we’ll paint in the studio with nature looking in on us from the glorious windows.

Participants wishing to create complex or ambitious projects should expect to spend additional time working outside of class.

What can I expect to create?

Participants will complete several small to medium sized paintings/experimental pieces, possibly one per day or more, depending on each student’s desire.

What should I bring to class?

All painting supplies will be provided; however, experienced participants are welcome to bring their own brushes if desired.

Please bring layers and a daypack for possible outings. The Guild will provide small three-legged stools for outdoor painting; some participants may choose to bring a folding chair with a back.
