Sewing machine in good working order – must do zigzag and free motion work
Machine accessories: cords, feet, cleaning supplies, manual
Machine needles: Topstitch size 90 and 100
Hand needles: Chenille size 20, Beading size 10/11/12
Needle threader (I like the LoRan threader – check the embroidery department)
Scissors: paper, fabric, & thread
Ruler: 6″x12″ would be best
Needle nose pliers – clean
X-acto knife with new blade (a box knife would also work)
Machine Threads: decorative threads for embellishing the fabric collage – fragile rayons and metallics may not be your best bet. I prefer the heavier cottons or trilobal polyesters for this structure (Superior, Isacord, etc.)
Hand Threads: Nylon beading thread – fragile metallic threads may be hand couched on surface – size 8 perle cotton (coordinate color of threads with your fabric and beads)
Fabrics: the Guild has a small stash of fabric for your use, but if you want specific colors, you should plan to bring them with you and fill in with the Guild fabrics. No need to bring your whole studio, but give yourself plenty of options. If you want to use photos, be sure to get them printed on fabric before coming to class.
Embellishments: Yarns, beads, charms, silk flowers, found objects, anything that you want to consider.
