Kari Reiquam is new to the Grünewald Guild. She came to serve as Acting Director, sight unseen! She is hoping that being an "outsider" and a "learner" will prove to be a gift as she navigates the relationships, the history and the dreams of the Guild in her 6 months of interim time.
Kari is the mother of two young women, Siri and Annelise, and is married to Bryan Austill, a retired psychologist as well as a Methodist minister. Kari has been an ELCA pastor since 1979, serving in a variety of ministries in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon and Hawaii. Most recently she has been engaged in interim and re-development ministry in the Rocky Mountain Synod.
Kari has had a love for the arts and has been a leader of ministries that relate community, faith and the arts, so the mission of the Guild is a part of her. She loves outdoor activities (skiing and hiking) as well as reading and good conversation.
Her journey to the Guild began by attending a writers’ workshop at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico last fall and getting excited about the many ways a "place apart" can nurture creativity and community. She called a friend from seminary to start a writers’ group and one conversation led to another and, eventually, to the Guild!
Kari hopes to grow from this time of exploration, find ways to stay open to God’s creative spirit, and be present to this place at this moment of transition. Conversations are most welcome!
