Calligraphy has been Laura Norton’s passion and joy for almost 30 years, even as she started her career in public accounting and as an instructor with Seattle Central College. Over the years she has studied with many of the finest lettering artists in the world; participated in several international calligraphy conferences; taught calligraphy in a variety of settings; and more recently, has been creating original weekly Lectionary Art for faith communities. She has used bamboo pens, goose quills, pointed and broad-edged brushes and metal-nib pens to do calligraphic lettering on walls, silk, clothing, calfskin vellum, and paper. In addition to teaching, she delights in giving presentations on the arts and their connection to faith and justice. A member of the calligraphy guilds, RainWriters and Write On Calligraphers (past board member), Laura is also on the arts faculty at Holden Village. She believes that anyone can use hand lettering to express—beautifully and powerfully--the important things they are moved to convey.
