Matthew Whitney has worked as a multidisciplinary visual artist, educator, and pedestrian in Seattle for the past 20 years. He works between drawing, painting, photography, collage, video, performance, and group facilitation, with a focus on the metaphorical and spiritual power generated through the everyday rhythms of walking, making things, and stillness. He has a BA in Art from Whitworth University and an MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts. He is currently the Creative Director for Spiritual Directors International, a non-profit that promotes spiritual companionship and contemplative practice. He previously taught art for Seattle Pacific University and Northwest University.
