Matthew Whitney is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and pedestrian. He works between drawing, painting, photography, collage, video, performance, and group facilitation, with a focus on the metaphorical and spiritual power generated through the everyday rhythms of walking, making things, and stillness. He has a BA in Art from Whitworth University and an MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts. He teaches visual art at Seattle Pacific University and Northwest University. He is currently the Visual Media and Technology Coordinator for Spiritual Directors International, a non-profit that promotes contemplative practices across traditions. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and lives and works in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. He worships at Sanctuary Church where he facilitates a weekly discipleship group, and enjoys going for walks with his family.
