This 9-month virtual and in-person fellowship seeks to bring 10 artists of diverse media (visual arts, music, and writing) together to explore art in relationship to the sacred. Those selected for the cohort will meet online 5 times and participate in a week-long in-person all expenses paid residency at the Grünewald Guild (travel to and from the Guild will not be covered).

Studio space will be provided; materials for individual work should be provided by the artist. The retreat will include daily sacred gathering in the morning and evening, ample studio time, and opportunities to explore the area and rest.  Specific topics to be explored relate to community, ritual, and connection.

Online meetings will consist of discussion, sharing of art and creative process, and guest speakers. Artists will be encouraged to create art pieces in response to topics we explore.  We will approach the fellowship through an ecumenical lens and utilize the book “Bearing the Mystery, (edited by Gregory Wolfe) a collection of poems, essays, stories and art collected from Image Journal, as a primary text.  The fellowship will culminate with an art show at the Guild where artists will have an opportunity to share work created during the fellowship.  The show will also be documented for the artist to bring home to share with their own communities.

This program will be facilitated by former Guild director, Julia Hubbard, and artist and teacher Nicki Lang.
